ISSS provides immigration support to all international scholars. In this section, you will find important information on immigration statuses on ASU faculty.
Once scholars arrive in Boone they should check-in at International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in room 226 or 228 of I.G. Greer Hall. Every international student and scholar joining Appalachian State University is required to check-in before classes or employment begins. In order to complete a "check-in" scholars should bring with them the following documents: passport, visa document (I-20 or DS-2019) and I-94 (Admission/Departure card). At this time copies of their documents will be made. The Office of International Student and Scholar Services staff can assist scholars with any questions or concerns that they might have at this time.
During check-in, scholars will be given instructions on how to apply for the Social Security Number, how to take advantage of a tax treaty, and what documents are needed to be put on Appalachian State University’s payroll, etc.
