Additional Resources and Orientation Information

The Office of International Education and Development is happy to offer the following services to international students:

Before students arrive:

  • Issue of DS-2019s and I-20s
  • Mailing of a pre-arrival packet to guide international students as they plan their arrival to ASU
  • Email and phone communication to answer incoming students’ questions
  • A host family that students can begin to establish a relationship with before they arrive
  • An App Pear that students can begin to establish a relationship with before they arrive
  • Mail service- OIED will hold packages that students order before they arrive in the office
  • Make housing arrangements for exchange students and graduate students who wish to live in Mountaineer Apartments

During Attendance:

  • Provide airport pick-up and drop-off once each semester
  • International student orientation designed specifically for international students’ needs
  • Academic advising for exchange students
  • Issue health insurance and help with any health needs
  • Assistance setting up a bank account
  • Assistance setting up a cell phone account
  • Advising on immigration issues by appointment or by drop-ins
  • Advising and mentoring on any issue an international student wishes to discuss by appointment or by drops-ins
  • Update students DS2019s and I-20s as necessary
  • Issue Curricular Practical Training, Pre-Completion Practical Training and Post-Completion Practical Training to eligible students
  • Issue Academic Training to eligible students
  • Assist with the completion of FNIS forms
  • Tax software for international visitors: CINTAX
  • Assist students with obtaining a social security card with transportation to the office and interve if there is any problem obtaining the card
  • Email and phone communication to answer students’ questions
  • Academic support by monitoring students’ progress through students’ advisors
  • “This, too, is America”- a series of classes and excursions for international students.  There is an annual trip to Washington, D.C. and many others.
  • Transportation assistance
  • Provide some direction on any legal issues
  • Help students’ visiting families to obtain Visas
  • Provide an array of social programming designed to help international students know the local community
  • Award two international student scholarships per year
  • Intervene with any relevant bureaucratic problems
